The Great Koinonia Pecan Sort-a-Thon was this week and it was a great success! We had teams of people hand sorting pecans for 24 hours from March 29-30.
At our kick off event, we broke up into teams: Flaming Hot Red Robins, Mellow Yellows, Great Green O’Geckos, and Purple Fox Squirrels. We played games and cheered each other on as we went inside to begin sorting.
All Koinonia’s pecans are hand sorted. Once they are harvested, they go through a thorough cleaning, cracking, and shelling process in our pecan plants. Then the shelled pecans head to the sorting room where they are hand sorted into categories: halves, pieces, ambers, and any small bits of shell left over are thrown away. This ensures our customers receive the best quality pecans every time!
Thanks to everyone who participated in our Great Sort-A-Thon! And thanks to all our customers for supporting Koinonia by purchasing our pecans, Fair Trade Chocolate, handmade bakery goods, and more.
